READ THE LATEST ORGMETRICS NEWSLETTER: When Letting Go Feels Harder Than Holding On

If you have been working closely with OrgMetrics since 2023, you most likely have interacted with OrgMetrics’ Certified DISC Trainer, Louisa Garrett.

Louisa Garrett helps lead the administrative arm of the OrgMetrics’ team and has begun sharing her passion and knowledge of DISC with construction project teams as a way to improve team dynamics. Whether a team is navigating a fast-paced design-build project, juggling multiple subcontractors, or leading a team through change, there is no better place to start than with our “Building with Style” Training workshop. Louisa is passionate about the collaborative effort of people working together to achieve a common goal. As a lifelong athlete, including college tennis at the University of Wisconsin La Crosse, Louisa understands what goes into creating a cohesive, well-bonded team. She has coached a variety of youth sports for more than 20 years at a variety of age levels and has a deep understanding of how teams work as individuals and as a whole. Let’s welcome Louisa as she takes on the new role of our Certified DISC Trainer here at OrgMetrics.

Why DISC Works for Construction Teams

DISC works in the construction world because it’s practical and easy to apply.  You don’t need a psychology degree to use it.  When your team members have completed a DISC assessment, they will discover a lot about themselves.  After taking and understanding the assessment feedback, they will quickly learn how to identify key behavioral cues from others, like whether someone prefers to “get down to business” immediately or take a minute to chat about their weekend first.  These small insights make a big difference in how people effectively interact.  DISC allows you to go from seeing a colleague as “difficult” to understanding and recognizing both their style and the value they bring to the team.  When team members appreciate how each style contributes to a better project, they begin to adapt accordingly.

After training hundreds of teams in many different disciplines, we have learned that a well-timed training focused on DISC leads to incredible results when an organization is taking on a new strategic initiative, a construction team is kicking off a complex project, or when you are working through a change that requires enhanced communication across departments or organizations. We can help teams understand why some individuals seem to naturally fit into certain roles and why others may experience friction points due to differing styles.  Our goal is to help project leaders form more cohesive teams from the start.

Louisa has enjoyed jumping into the construction world using the DISC model. Understanding behavior styles is just like knowing your teammates’ strengths and tendencies as it helps you anticipate their next move, communicate under pressure, and play smarter together. The “Building with Style” Training Workshop takes the collaborative and hands-on approach perfected by OrgMetrics and is tailored to the construction world. Louisa has experience guiding organizations and large project teams in DISC and is ready to help you and your organization. She is all about teamwork, trust, and excelling to our greatest potential together.
