The West Cargo Field Redevelopment Facility (WFC) at San Francisco International Airport (SFO). The cargo area, approximately 62,000 sf with a clear height of 26 ft, included two office pods, each two stories tall, totaling about 14,000 sq ft. The project was completed with a perfect safety record.
Project Challenges:
A traditional cargo facility is designed with offices in the mezzanine completely removed from the cargo space. For the WFC Facility, however, the team proposed a POD design that resulted in a flexible final tenant space for SFO that allows tenants to be close to their cargo areas. By utilizing PODs, the WFC Facility re-imagined how a cargo facility functions and created a more collaborative space. Despite starting with a budget of $55M that was then reduced to budget of $30.9M, the project was successfully completed under the allotted amount.
