Project Description

The improvements made to SFO Runways 1-19s Runway Safety Area brought SFO’s four runways up to full compliance of FAA Standards. The contract included over $95M of direct construction work as well as the installation by the Contractor of over $50M of owner supplied materials. The Team completed the work one month ahead of schedule, with no lost time accidents, under budget, exceeded the stringent FAA contract quality requirements, and achieved substantial completion with no unresolved issues or claims.

Project Challenges:

At the time, the Project was the largest airfield construction project undertaken at SFO in the last 50 years. The scope and schedule restrictions required that over $1M of construction work be completed on a daily basis, and be sensitive to safety, airfield security, and the Airlines who could not afford to experience construction-related delays.
