Project Description:

The $75 million San Francisco International Airport Mel Leong Industrial Wastewater Treatment Plant project involved a progressive design-build approach to upgrade existing sanitary and industrial wastewater treatment facilities originally built in the 1970s. These upgrades were necessary to increase capacity for future demands, address deferred maintenance, extend facility life, comply with Title 22 Regulations, and support SFO’s sustainability goals by providing recycled water. The project scope included rehabilitating and replacing industrial primary and secondary wastewater treatment processes, upgrading solids dewatering facilities, constructing a new 8,000-SF administrative and laboratory building, and implementing new recycled water treatment and storage facilities. The project encompassed design, construction, permitting, activation, commissioning, and closeout phases, focusing on enhancing wastewater treatment capabilities and infrastructure support for San Francisco International Airport.
