Budget: $36M

Project Description

This $36M project focused on revitalizing the primary thoroughfare in the City of Live Oak along State Route 99. It received $2.3 million from the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017 (SB 1) and $10 million from the federal Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery Grant program, demonstrating a commitment to enhancing both local and regional connectivity.

Contractor De Silva Gates expanded the roadway from two to five lanes, implementing innovative design features such as decorative streetlamps and bioswales to filter roadway runoff. Critical upgrades included the extension of traffic lanes, installation of new stoplights, construction of continuous sidewalks, and the creation of parking bays. The rehabilitation effort aimed at providing the highway with a 40-year pavement life, emphasizing durability and longevity.

Caltrans Acting Director Steven Keck praised the project's success in meeting the community's needs, balancing regional connections with the creation of a vibrant, walkable main street. The collaboration with local partners and businesses exemplified how infrastructure improvements could enhance communities, significantly improving traffic flow and safety for motorists and pedestrians alike. The project serves as a testament to the positive outcomes achievable through strategic collaboration and targeted infrastructure investments.
